Every test site has the same required components and criteria. Knowledge of controls is the first section of the test. Once the student successfully completes the controls section, they will be required to parallel park. Parallel parking is tested before going onto the public roadway. Your skills are assessed while performing at least two right and left turns, driving through and abiding by at least one traffic control device, and adjusting to a speed zone change.
Upon successful completion of the driver's skills test, the learner's permit will be marked and the results will be submitted to PennDOT for processing. Once PennDOT posts the test results, you will be escorted inside the DMV and your photo will be taken. You will be issued your PA Drivers License shortly after. If you take the test at a Third-Party testing site, a camera card will be issued and mailed to the address on record. You should receive the camera card within 2-3 weeks. You can use your marked permit as a license until the camera card is received.
If you are unsuccessful in passing the driver's skills test, the learner's permit will be marked and the results will be submitted to PennDOT for processing. If you are over the age of 18, you can reschedule another road test immediately for the next day. If you under 18, you must wait seven days to retest. If this is your third unsuccessful attempt, your learner's permit will no longer be valid for continued practicing and you will need to obtain a new learner's permit. If you have not taken or successfully completed the road test within three years of your physical examination date, you must start over with another Non-Commercial Learner's Permit and retake the knowledge test.
